Postby cgipe.pdsconsulting » Tue Dec 13, 2016 5:57 pm

Has anyone created a script that would help with Windows Update Troubleshooting? I found this article with support
https://docs.labtechsoftware.com/knowle ... ticle/5433

But I would have through they would have a script that would have this automated by now.

Looks like that KB page is based on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058.

Nowadays if the patching tab is blank in Windows 7 I find it's almost always because the PC doesn't have the latest WU agent on it. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3172605). Otherwise I've seen older/slower PCs take over 24 hours to check for (or install) updates which eventually times out in LabTech (and uses one CPU core at 100% the entire time).

To install, stop the WU service (so the MSU installer doesn't check for pending updates and take hours to run), install the .msu file, and restart.

Microsoft never released a fix for Vista which are almost always even older and slower PCs. We gave up and told our remaining Vista PCs owners we would just set Windows to install all updates, set LT to check once a week instead of daily. Those PCs should be replaced by EOL in spring anyway.
