Permissions for Delete PC

Postby mduphily.verteks » Wed Mar 07, 2012 11:00 am

Does anyone know what permission affects the Delete PC command? We have a client who manages their own PCs and we can't seem to figure out which permission will allow them to remove old PCs from LabTech.

Hey,

The user will need to have the System Config permission, located under the Permission tab for the user.

Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks

Hello,

We've run into the same situation where a client wants to manage their own PC's as well. My problem is that this single permission also gives them full permission under the Config tab of the Dashboard. We really don't want any other users messing around in here.

There must be a way to give a user complete control only under Client X' without giving them permissions into system-wide settings?

I know, permissions are annoying aren't they?

Instead of giving the client more permissions than they need an alternative would be to create an extra data computer field called Mark Agent fo Deletion and tell the client to set that on any agent they want removed

Then have a script that runs on agents that have that field value set for that client. The script calls the SP_DeleteComputer on the agent and then it's deleted from the system.

How do I call SP_DeleteComputer? I'm looking at the script commands list and can't find it. I did a search throughout LT and also couldn't find it.

This is precisely what I came up with after not finding an answer to this question a while back. Of course, this still doesn't solve the issue with permissions...

My script actually has just 2 lines:

SQL EXECUTE: (This line removes the Probe from the computer which would prevent it from being deleted)
Code: Select all
Update computers SET flags = flags & ~ 128 WHERE computerid=@computerid@

SQL EXECUTE: (This line does the actual deleting)
Code: Select all
Call sp_DeleteComputer(%computerid%,'Detected computer was marked for deletion. Computer was deleted')

You can use the extra data field to let the customer check PC's as they wish and then schedule the script against a search group to clean it out on whatever interval you wish.

Hope that helps!

Unfortunately it is not possible to delete a computer from Control Center without having "System Config" or "Super Admin" permission assigned to a user.

I would suggest to send it to featurerequest@labtechsoftware.com so that it can be reviewed to be added in our future releases.

This solution gets me partially where I want to be.

I want a coworker to have the ability to delete agents, but not grant the coworker System Config permissions.

BUT, I don't want all LT users to have the ability to delete PCs.

How may I create the extra data field and only allow a specific user or User Class to manipulate that edf?

Thanks,
Steve
