Reboot Computer in Safemode with Networking

Postby daryl.clune.thinkit » Thu Mar 14, 2013 12:24 am

Hi there,

Apologies if this isn't the right place to post this request.
After trying to search for this here on the forums, I have resorted to asking via a post.

Is there anyway I can run a command to Reboot the computer in Safe Mode with Networking?
I can find the commands that restart in Safe Mode and Restart in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, however it is the aforementioned option that I am needing.

Appreciate your thoughts and assistance in advance.

You'll have to potentially write your own script to do this. Note you'll have to write a companion script to switch off safe mode when you're done.

To switch on Safe Mode with Networking and reboot:

Windows XP class:
Shell execute: bootcfg /raw /a /safeboot:network /id 1
Shell execute: shutdown -f -r -t 3
Windows Vista class:
Shell: bcdedit /set {default} safeboot network
Shell execute: shutdown -f -r -t 3

To switch off Safe Mode with Networking and reboot:
Shell execute: bootcfg /raw /fastdetect /id 1
Shell execute: shutdown -f -r -t 3
Windows Vista class:
Shell: bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot network
Shell execute: shutdown -f -r -t 3

Use at own risk - untested.

Since Restart in Safe Mode allows the agent to communicate I always assumed it was "with networking." Are you not able to connect in afterwards?

I'm with Steve, Reboot to Safe Mode has always gotten me reconnected. Maybe it didn't start out that way and got fixed somewhere along the line. There isn't much point in restarting a machine remotely to safe mode without networking.
